The accused in the case of the missing three-year-old Liyaqat ‘Lee’ Mentoor appeared in the Johannesburg High Court again on 15 February.
The 29-year-old Onke Hartin Mashinini, who stands accused of pre-meditated murder, as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances, appeared in court for his pre-trial hearing, but to everyone’s frustration, the case was postponed yet again.

Estelle Delport, the family representative, said that Mashinini’s new counsel is now questioning the DNA results, “The case was also postponed because they claimed that they have not had enough time to go through all the facts, resulting in them requesting another postponement.”
Lee went missing on 16 March last year and Estelle said, “It has been 11 months since Lee went missing and we are still no closer to finding him. By the time Mashinini appears again, a year will have passed since Lee’s disappearance.”
She added that Lee’s mother, Kaylah Mentoor, was devastated and said, “At the best of times, it is still hard for her as well as the family. We try to remain strong and hopeful that we will find Lee soon.”
The case was postponed to 18 March, with Mashinini remaining in custody until then.
