Roodepoort Police against drinking and driving

Police fight drinking and driving in Roodepoort community

The Roodepoort Police are committed to fight drinking and driving in the area, according to the statement issued by the acting station commander, Colonel H Xaba.

Xaba explained that a blood alcohol content of more than 0,05 per cent in the body is above the limit permitted by the State, and urged all drivers not to drink and drive as this could lead to breaches of the law.

The commander also made it clear that the various Metropolitan Police Departments and other law enforcement divisions will be conducting road blocks to check that people do not drink and drive, and perpetrators will be arrested and charged for driving under the influence of liquor. “Depending on prior convictions against you, as well as the circumstances surrounding your arrest, you might face a minimum fine of R2 000 or two years in prison, or both,” said Xaba.

If you have a drinking problem, contact the Roodepoort Police’s Victim Support Unit helpline on 011 279 6582 from Monday to Friday between 8am and 3pm.
