Hot spots for cable theft

Desperate to curb the cable thefts and phone downtime experienced by residents

Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin, has raised her concerns about residents who are experiencing downtime due to the constant theft of Telkom lines.

“I have communicated with the investigation team from Telkom, who are also desperately trying to curb cable thefts that prevent residents from using their house phones and internet. Often we drive past parked vehicles and workers without questioning what is going on.

Most are legitimate, but it’s under this guise that criminals are operating and stealing cables,” she said. Benjamin said the following streets in Roodepoort have become the cable theft hot spots: Albertina Sisulu Road, Birch Street, Jacaranda Street, Napier Street, Van Wyk Street, South Road, Progress Road, Buitekant Road, Sonop Street, Berlandina Street and Kwartsiet Street.

“I am urging residents to use the details below to report any suspicious activities, especially where work is been done in drains and cables are involved,” she added.
