Taxi carrying housebreaking implements impounded

According to Captain Balan Muthan, the Johannesburg West Cluster spokesperson, the vehicle was followed by police during an area patrol and stopped when its registration number was found not to match the vehicle.

 

Florida Police have managed to thwart some future housebreakings after pouncing on a minibus which was loaded with housebreaking implements and firearms in the Florida area on Friday, 1 February.

According to Captain Balan Muthan, the Johannesburg West Cluster spokesperson, the vehicle was followed by police during the area patrol and stopped after its registration number was found not to match the vehicle.

The impounded minibus that was found to be carrying various housebreaking implements.

“Police were on patrol when a white Toyota Quantum passed them at the corner of The Highway and Golf Club Terrace. The members then decided to follow it,” he said.

While following the vehicle, Muthan said police decided to check on the vehicle, and found that the registration plates on the Quantum belonged to a Nissan vehicle,” he explained.

“The members then decided to stop the Quantum. Once it stopped, four people exited it and ran off in different directions. The members then managed to arrest one suspect, a man from Orlando East in Soweto,” Muthan said.

He added that the suspect was searched and a pistol with 14 rounds was found on him. The police then searched the taxi. “Inside the Quantum, they found two more firearms with 10 rounds, three of which were hollow-points; an Astra pistol with filed-off serial numbers and 15 rounds, four being hollow-points; a 4-pound sledgehammer, and a crowbar,” Muthan disclosed.

Some of the firearms and ammunition that were among the housebreaking implements recovered by the police.

Muthan said that after the recovery, the suspect was detained at the Florida Police Station while the minibus was taken to a pound in Lenasia.
