Baby Marno home safe and set to benefit from second golf day

Marno has returned home after recovering from pneumonia.

Good news for Baby Marno Greyvenstein is not only that he’s returned home, but also that he will be benefiting from a sold-out golf day in February.

Marno was born on 23 August 2016, and has spent just about as many days of his short life in a hospital bed as in the comfort of his home in Radiokop. Marno was born with a whole host of complications, including not having a corpus callosum, having severe micrognathia, a hole in the septum of his heart, and being unable to hear.

Marno’s parents, Emile and Myntette, held their first Baby Marno golf day at Ruimsig Country Club last year, in the hope of raising enough money to fund Marno’s cochlear implant operation. At the third attempt, Marno finally received a cochlear implant in his right ear in July last year which has now given him something he’d never had before – the gift of hearing.

After the successful implant, Emile and Mynette have decided to go ahead and take Baby Marno for another cochlear implant, this time into his left ear. However, due to the expense that comes with such an operation, the Greyvensteins have once again organised a golf day at Ruimsig Country Club for Baby Marno. Luckily for Marno, the golf day has already sold out, and will be taking place on 26 February.

According to Emile, Marno’s reaction to the successful cochlear implant in his right ear was positive. “He is responding to noises now, and week-in and week-out he has speech therapy which has already started to help him.”

Marno recently recovered from a bout of pneumonia which saw him spend some more time at Life Fourways Hospital. Thankfully, he returned home healthy on Tuesday, 22 January.
