A braai-area lapa caught fire in Rinyani Avenue this morning, burning down in the process.
The lapa is expected to have caught fire sometime between 9am and 9.30am. According to a Honeydew CPF official, the owner of the house said he woke up about 9am and didn’t notice anything.

Shortly thereafter is when the lapa is expected to have caught fire, and the owner as well as his gardener immediately started fighting the fire. Their efforts meant that the fire wasn’t able to spread to neighbouring houses.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services reportedly arrived on scene approximately 30/40min later to douse what was left of the fire as well as further contain it.
