Roodepoort parkrun kicks of new year with a bang

More than 1 000 people participated

 

More than 1 000 runners and walkers recently completed their weekly 5km event at the Roodepoort parkrun.

Kip Norman, who was the run director on the day, said that 1 131 people ran, jogged and walked the two-lap course, “Out of these runners, 168 were first-timers and 123 recorded new personal bests (PB). We also had 37 volunteers who ensured the event went off without a hitch.”

There were also two milestones reached on the day, with Bronwyn Mandich joining the 50 Club and Graeme Adamson completing his 250th run.

James Bantom was the first male to cross the finish line, in a time of 17 minutes and 59 seconds, which was a new personal best for him. Amy Janse van Vuuren was the first female finisher, and also recorded a new personal best with a time of 22 minutes and 53 seconds.

The parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8am, at Len Rutter Park in Florida.
