This past weekend (18 to 20 January) more than 900 arrests were made and 20 taxis impounded in Gauteng.
Of these, 180 arrests were made and five taxis were impounded in Roodepoort, according to provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela.

These arrests and impounding of taxis were the result of intelligence-driven operations as well as stop-and-search operations. According to Makhubela, “Crime prevention and combating interventions by police in Gauteng are gaining momentum”.
The suspects were arrested in areas such as Tembisa, Hillbrow, Johannesburg Central, Meadowlands, Randfontein and Roodepoort, on charges that included murder, rape, robbery, hijackings, possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing in drugs, possession of stolen motor vehicles, theft and drinking and driving.
