Caring community supports Cape region firemen

The first batch of donations, which included energy drinks, bottled water and chocolates, was collected at Madza Clearwater on Friday, 18 January.

“Even though we cannot physically assist them in fighting the fires, we can assist them with other needs.”

These were the touching words from Lizel Janse van Vuuren, the poster child for the Western Cape firefighters’ relief packs donation campaign which saw community members and businesses rallying together to provide support to these firefighters, who have been in the mountains for weeks trying to contain raging fires.

The first batch of donations, which included energy drinks, bottled water and chocolates were collected at Mazda Clearwater on Friday, 18 January, and from there, the items were packaged and kept ready for transportation.

Lizel, who thanked the businesses and community members for their donations, indicated that the Gift of the Givers will be assisting them with transportation arrangements. “Gift of the Givers is transporting everything down for us using three trucks this week,” she said.

She concluded by encouraging more donations for the next loads that will be arranged.
