Pathways Roodepoort invites community to attend centre fundraisers

The NPO has two fundraisers lined up for the coming month.

As a stimulation centre for children and young adults with severe mental and physical disabilities, Pathways Roodepoort is a non-profit organisation that cares for special needs children.

Pathways Roodepoort was established in 2005, as founder Sunette Pretorius felt there was a severe shortage of facilities that provide care and stimulation for children with severe disabilities. Pathways primarily relies on fundraising, sponsorship and donations to sustain the

centre, which is held together by a dedicated group of families, staff, volunteers, friends and supporters.

Two of these necessary fundraisers take place in the coming month, with the first on 25 January in The Barnyard Theatre at Silverstar Casino. The Barnyard will be hosting a ‘Strictly No 1s’ show, which is the event that will serve as the fundraiser. The tickets will cost R170, with the doors opening at 6.30pm, and the show starting at 8pm. If you would like any additional information regarding the event, you can contact Esmé Alberts on 083 681 5399.

The second event that Pathways will be holding is a family braai and dance on Valentine’s Day, this time at Pathways Roodepoort. Everyone is welcome, and it will cost R200 per couple. You will need to bring your own meat and refreshments for the braai. It will all start at 4pm on 16 February, at the Pathways Centre at 35/ 1 Bernard Street in Poortview. For any more info or to RSVP before 8 February, you can contact Sunette Pretorius on 078 571 9096.

All funds raised at the event will go to the centre, helping them continue with the following services:

• Care, education, therapy and transport services to children and young adults with severe and profound disabilities

• Training and permanent employment opportunities to caregivers and facilitators

• Support, counselling and information to the families of persons with disabilities

• Training, community service and practical experience centre for primary, high school and university students

• Full and partial subsidies to underprivileged learners with disabilities

• Awareness and campaigning for persons with disabilities
