Are you planning to be outdoors on Christmas Day?

If this idea works for you, here are some tips for packing a scrumptious picnic basket on a sunny Christmas Day, courtesy of Southern Living.

Most families spend Christmas indoors at a home adorned with a Christmas tree and presents every year.

If you feel that this traditional way of celebrating Christmas has become less attractive, have you ever thought about packing a picnic basket and heading to a park?

If this idea works for you, here are some tips for packing a scrumptious picnic basket on a sunny Christmas day, courtesy of Southern Living.

1. Salt and pepper

Seasoning is a small thing, but it goes a long way towards making your picnic tastier –especially if you happen to be eating fried chicken.

2. Paper towels

You never know when you might have a big spill on your hands. And a roll of paper towel won’t blow away like a stack of napkins will.

3. A tray

If you’re eating on the ground, a lightweight plastic or enamel tray will provide a smooth surface that will prevent drinks from toppling over.

4. Serving spoons

Cutlery is essential, of course, but don’t forget a large spoon or two for serving food.

5. Folding knife

A small folding knife will come in handy for a variety of jobs, and is essential if you’re serving meats and cheeses.

6. Cutting board

A lightweight cutting board is also a good idea if cheese is on the menu, or if you’re slicing sandwiches or fruit.

7. Trash bags

Always throw a trash bag or two in your bag for an easy clean-up when the picnic’s over. Even if there are plenty of trash cans nearby, your own bag will save you from having to walk back and forth to throw everything away.
