Illegal mining claims two more lives

Wits West Mining agreed to assist police with extracting bodies.

Two illegal miners (zama-zamas) died at about 10am this morning when the exterior sand wall of a dump caved in on top of them.

The zama-zamas’ colleagues alerted community member Rachel Kgajane, who in turn informed community activist Cora Bailey and the police. The police arrived about an hour later and after assessing the situation contacted Wits West Mining who agreed to assist with the extraction of the bodies.
