Children are urged to visit libraries this festive season

Libraries will ensure that even those who cannot afford a vacation, still get the best.

 

Children will not get bored this festive season as local local libraries will be keeping them entertained with a range of jam-packed fun activities.

The activities are aimed at providing a variety of fun learning and reading experiences. They also promote library services and provide a safe environment for fun activities. The activities are offered free of charge during library hours to both members and non-members of the libraries to ensure that even those who cannot afford a vacation, still get the best. This is part of pro-poor service delivery.

The holiday programmes are as follows:

• On 12 December, the Tshepisong Library will be hosting a Water Wise presentation by Joburg Water on how to save water and use water wisely. Time: 10am to 12pm. The target group is children aged seven to 15 years. For more information, contact Victor Chauke on 011 765 4005.

• On 13 December, the Weltevreden Park Library will host children to make Christmas cards to take home.Time: 10am to 12pm. The target group is children aged two to 18 years. For more information, contact Sandy Visser on 011 679 3406.

• On 13 December the Bram Fischerville Library will host children to make Christmas cards to take home. Time: 10am to 12pm. The target group is children aged three to 14 years. For more information, contact Patricia Mathe on 010 229 0006.

• On 13 December the Florida Library will host an ADT Safety Educational Show. The theme is ‘Personal, electrical and other safety tips’. Time: 10am to 12pm. The target group is children aged four to 14 years. For more information, contact Bulelwa or Vukani on 011 858 3200.

Residents are kindly advised to also note the following:

• From Saturday 1 December to 26 January, libraries that are usually operational after 1pm on Saturdays, will close at 1pm. Normal operational hours will resume on Saturday, 2 February.

• From Monday 3 December to 4 January libraries that usually close at 6pm on weekdays will close at 5pm. Normal operational hours will resume on Monday 7 January. Libraries will close for the festive period at 1pm on Friday, 21 December, and will re-open on Wednesday, 2 January. Library users will be given an opportunity to take extra books before 1pm on 21 December, and the loan period will be extended to the 2 January.
