More illegal shebeens were shut down and a large quantity of alcohol was confiscated during a huge raid involving the police, West Rand Cluster CPF and BCI Security on 6 December.
Dubbed the Integrated Rural Safety Operation, the raid successfully swept out all illegal operations in various informal settlements, including one in Ruimsig.

A BCI Security report listed all successes on the day. These included the following:
· Arrest of 23 illegal immigrants.
· Shutdown of six illegal sheebeens and five fines imposed on people operating without a liquor licence.
· Confiscation of two sound systems with four speakers and three amplifiers.
· The total volume of the liquor confiscated was 1 118 110ml.
· More than nine cartons of counterfeit cigarettes were seized.
· Officers found seven dagga bushes growing close to a shebeen.
· Seventy-two counterfeit DVDs were seized.
