WATCH: Wilgeheuwel sewer line blocked again

Thys Smith, a resident of Wilgeheuwel, complained about yet another smelly blockage, just a week after Johannesburg Water (JW) personnel came out to unblock the sewer line.

Just when they thought the sewer blockage that has affected their lives for months had been resolved, the residents of Wilgeheuwel found they had cause to complain again – there’s been yet another blockage near Shearwater Road this week.

Thys Smith, a resident of Wilgeheuwel, complained about yet another smelly blockage, just a week after Johannesburg Water (JW) personnel came out to unblock the sewer line.

Watch here:

A disgruntled Smith appealed for serious technical intervention as he mentioned that the sewer had been unblocked at least five times in one month, but blocks up again in the space of a week or less. Apart from the unbearable smell, Smith’s biggest concern about the blockage is that the sewage gushes into the nearby river, which causes water pollution that endangers the lives of the creatures living along the river, such as scorpions and frogs.

JW spokesperson, Eleanor Mavimbela, previously indicated that a camera survey would be conducted in the sewer line to determine the cause and impose relevant fines on the wrongdoers. However, to date, nothing has been communicated about the plans for the survey but also indicated that the depot will be attending to the blockage today, Friday, 30 November.
