Non-compliant vehicle workshops in and around the City of Johannesburg’s Region C have been issued with notices to get their ‘houses’ in order.
This follows a visit by officers of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) together with Emergency Management Services and Environment Health who jointly conducted a by-law operation in areas such as Laser Park, Cosmo City and Zandspruit on Tuesday, 13 November.

JMPD’s superintendent, Wandile Mrubata, told Northsider that the aim was not only to check for compliance, but also to look out for stolen vehicles.
“We ensured that we checked for stolen vehicles and also that businesses have the compliance and health certificates needed to run their businesses,” he said.
Those that did not meet the standard of the city, Mrubata said, were issued with notices ordering them to get compliance certificates from the relevant departments. “They were told to visit the fire safety and environmental health departments for help. And those spraying-painting cars outdoors were told what they are doing is a health hazard,” he explained.
