Dr. Maurits Kruger from Renewal Institute

Profile - Dr. Maurits Kruger

Dr. Maurits Kruger, registered homeopath and iridologist, obtained his master’s degree in homeopathy from UJ in 2006. As a student he managed a pharmacy, which added valuable insight and knowledge to what became and remains a passion of his – functional and anti-ageing medicine.

He further consulted for a respected nutraceutical manufacturer and imported, where he trained doctors on specialised products and treatment protocol. Through this exposure, Dr. Maurits realized early on in his career that lifestyle is one of the most important aspects of staying well.

He says that changing the “quick fix” mentality is the biggest step to improving one’s health. Real health requires ongoing effort and no pill can substitute a healthy life-style.

He explains that as a society we rely too much on medication to solve the problems caused by poor life-style choices. For many the simple solution is to take a pill for every ailment instead of finding the root cause of the problem, and solving it.

Unfortunately modern city life has affected the way we live, and therefore our health. We eat more processed food and consume way too much sugar. Many people sit behind a desk for the best part of the day, getting very little execerise.

Modern life has certainly increased our stress levels significantly and it’s also caused many to develop unhealthy sleep habits. Going to bed too late, exposure to electronic screens like smartphones, tv’s and laptops, bright lights and more all have an effect on our quality of sleep.

So many important things happen during deep sleep which are essential to health. The body goes through processes of tissue repair, detoxification, balancing of hormones, consolidation of memory and more. A lack of deep sleep will have a very negative impact on these processes and affect health, even when you are getting enough hours of sleep.

He understands, however, that getting someone to change unhealthy habits and adopt a healthy life-style is a very big challenge. To make it easy for his patienets, he refers back to The Renewal Institute’s 4 pillars that contributes to a healthy life-style. They are; a healthy diet and good nutrition, which includes a healthy gut, exercise, stress management with the foundation being good quality sleep.

The reality is that the fast pace of modern life has caused many of us to accept stress, anxiety and fatigue as part of our daily lives despite the devastating impact it has on our quality of life.

He says: “We live in a culture of instant gratification and quick fixes where health is not a priority. We need to shift this mindset. Good health and quality of life is more important than how much money you have in the bank. All the money in the world cannot buy back health once it is lost.”
