Sassa to look into Roodepoort office issues following inspection
Despite the upcoming Sassa strike on Wednesday, it is believed the issues at the Roodepoort office will be looked into.
Following the labelling of Sassa’s Roodepoort office as “one of the worst” after an oversight inspection on Friday, 5 September, many were left asking what’s going to be done about the issues.
Many a Roodepoort resident was aware of the issues with the South African Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) Roodepoort branch before the outcome of an oversight inspection exposed it as “one of the worst in terms of service” according to DA Team One SA Spokesperson on Basic Services, Makashule Gana. So instead of sitting back in shock and awe, residents stood up and asked “Well, what now?” of Gana and the DA shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridget Masango.

According to Masango, they have already met with a national Sassa official to bring the issues to light. “We immediately knew that these are issues that need to be resolved now, so for that reason we pushed for a meeting,” Masango said.
Masango further stated that they met during the weekend following the inspection, but could not divulge the contents of the meeting. She did however confirm that they looking at putting measures in place similar to those that have been instituted at previously problematic offices.
“These measures have proved successful where they have been used previously, and if they are used, they should be just as effective,” Masango reassured the public. This news comes of course against the background of the looming threat of a ‘full-blown’ Sassa strike by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu).
The possible strike is reportedly not only about pay disputes, but also due to “the refusal” of Sassa management to resolve technical glitches brought about by the migration of the social grant payment system from Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) to the South African Post Office (Sapo).
