Simba told the Northsider the incident happened at Sunset Rock on Doreen Road while he and his friends were waiting for a cab to take them home. “Three white guys approached us after leaving the club and said something that sounded racial to us. I tried to address it, but I woke up in an ambulance on my way to hospital,” he said, unable to recall what had happened and why he lost consciousness.

He said he was transported to Tshepisong Hospital where he was treated. “According to my hospital report I’ve broken both sides of my jaw and underwent surgery on Monday (1 October),” he explained. He was discharged the next day, but will undergo more surgery in the coming week. He opened a case at the Honeydew Police Station, and also added that he was going to approach the club to request footage of the incident. Sunset Rock manager, Prince Mathosa said they were not aware of the incident because nobody reported it to them. He alluded that staff are wary of fights because some customers carry dangerous weapons in their cars. “Sometimes we are scared to go outside because of the dangerous activities that take place. We normally call the police when we close to monitor the area,” he said.

Monash South Africa was willing to assist with counselling after learning about the incident.
