Drop a pair campaign draws to a close

140 pairs will be donated to those who do not have running shoes

The ‘Drop a pair and show you care’ campaign has drawn to a close and 140 underprivileged runners will soon be blessed with new running shoes.

Adielah Johnson, the Get It SPAR Women’s Challenge Joburg Face of the Race 2018 runner-up had a vision of collecting 500 pairs of running shoes to donate to underprivileged runners, and said, “Although I did not reach my goal of 500 pairs, I did manage to collect 136 pairs of running shoes in the past three weeks, which will still make a difference in someone else’s life”.

She added that the members of the Florida Running club and her colleagues at Lancet Laboratories in Auckland Park were her best supporters, as she received most of the donations from them. “But, it does not mean that I am not grateful to everyone else who also supported the initiative, even if they could only manage to donate one or two pairs of shoes. Every pair helped, and it would definitely make a huge difference,” said Adielah.

The school that will be receiving the running shoes has not been identified as yet, but Adielah said that it will be a West Rand based school. “The school will be announced after the conclusion of the Spar Women’s Race on 7 October,” she explained.

“I just want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this campaign, as well as to every single person who took the time to meet with me, especially the Florida Running Club members as well as the organisers of the Roodepoort and Sterkfontein parkrun. Thank you for sowing into this good cause, I can assure you that every child who will be receiving a pair of running shoes will be ever so thankful. It will make a huge difference in their lives,” Adielah concluded.
