Bakkie hijacked after skipping traffic light

The incident happened along Dale Lace Avenue, according to Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan.

Skipping a red traffic light was a costly mistake for a bakkie driver. He was subsequently hijacked after being stopped by a ‘police vehicle’ with five armed men in Randpark Ridge on 2 October.

The incident happened along Dale Lace Avenue, according to Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, who said the victim, 30, was shoved into the boot of the ‘police vehicle’ that drove around with him.

“The 30-year-old was driving his company car, a white Nissan NP200 with registration HN17GS GP. He skipped the traffic light and was stopped immediately by the occupants of a white BMW with blue lights. They first asked him for his driver’s licence, then pointed a firearm at him. They took him to the BMW while two of his assailants got into the Nissan. Both vehicles drove off. At an unknown area, they loaded the goods from the Nissan into the BMW, drove off and left him there with the company car,” Muthan detailed the incident.

He added that the victim’s cellphone and other goods, among them cellphones, valued at R392 000 were stolen.

The matter is under police investigation.
