Are you passionate about saving lives and assisting at crime scenes?

If this is your calling, the Honeydew Community Policing Forum Victim Support Unit is looking for volunteers that can serve the community.

Explaining the job description, chairperson of the Sector 2 Honeydew CPF, Neville Burnett said victim support volunteers go to the scene of a crime to assist the victims.

“A typical victim support volunteer will provide emotional support, and explain to the victim what to expect next,” he said. “You will also be given the task of contacting family members, and cancelling cellphones and bank cards for the victims,” Burnett elaborated, adding that the volunteer may also be required to help police, detectives and forensic investigators.

Burnett also explained that the volunteer/s must be prepared to work long hours. “Unfortunately crime is not restricted to any particular time, so when on duty, a volunteer may be called out 24/7,” he said.

“No prior training is necessary, although it may be beneficial,” he said.
