City Power installs new meters
City Power is warning residents not to allow any person, technician or contractor onto their property without first verifying credentials
Resident are urged to be on the lookout for City Power officials who will be requesting to install new meters in their proprieties.
City Power will be rolling out a meter installation project in Region C, E, and G of the City of Johannesburg whereby faulty, inaccessible, displaced and unaccounted meters will be removed and replaced with automated and semi-automated meters.
According to City Power Spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, the project is set to start from 25 September to the 14 October. The main purpose of the roll-out is to upgrade and consolidate metering data to ensure maximum accountability pertaining to functionality, performance and vending of meters on site.
Apparently, some of the benefits City Power will gain from the roll-out of automated and semi-automated meters is maximizing revenue collection, redress billing queries, eliminate illegal connections and enable the tracking of meters from stores to site. Customers will also be able to manage their own consumption.

“Residents who are not home when City Power employees/contractors arrive on their properties to seek access for meter installation are urged to contact City Power Metering Call Centre at 011 490 7484 to make arrangements for visits outside office hours or over the weekend,” Mangena said.
City Power is warning residents not to allow any person, technician or contractor onto their property without first verifying credentials with City Power’s Security Risk Control Unit on 011 490 7911 or 011 490 7553 or 011 490 7900 or by contacting Metering Call Centre number mentioned above.
Mangena also stated that City Power employees and contractors will have a City Power Identity card. The card will be colour coded for specific sections within City Power. The colour blue for permanent employees.
The card will display a photo of the specific employee or contractor carrying a card, their name, identification number and expiry date.
A hologram of the firefly appears on the card as well.
Report any damaged cards, including scratched or invisible photos, names and numbers immediately to City Power Security Risk Control numbers mentioned above.
Security Risk Control numbers appear on the back of the identification card.
Residents are also urged to contact their local Councillor or Regional Director for more information.
“We have become aware of imposters and urge residents to be highly vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles. Security Risk Control Unit will despatch a response vehicle immediately to apprehend suspects,” Mangena added.
