On Wednesday, 19 September, 14 suspects were arrested for running a bogus recruitment agency after scamming many unemployed youth in and around Johannesburg. They were expected to appear in court on Thursday, 20 September.

According to City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, the suspects were arrested in a sting operation conducted by the City’s Group Forensics and Investigations Services (GFIS) in collaboration with members of the Hawks and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD). Unsuspecting job seekers who had sent their CVs to the company were instructed to pay a R650 fee to secure placement as firefighters for the City’s Emergency Management Services.
