Two arrested for stolen vehicle and attempted murder

Suspects crashed vehicle while fleeing.

Yesterday (18 September) two suspects were arrested after a car chase and shootout.

Members of the Trio Task Team were patrolling on Albertina Sisulu Road at about 2.30pm when a member of the community stopped them and informed them about three men stripping a Ford Ranger on Reid Road. The officers responded to the information but when they arrived at the scene, the three male suspects jumped into a Ford Figo and fled.

A chase ensued during which the men shot at the police, who returned fire. The suspects’ vehicle subsequently crashed into a wall. They jumped out and fled on foot in different directions, but the police managed to arrest two of them. The third one, armed with a firearm, is still at large.

Two vehicle computer boards were found in their vehicle, and it was established that the Ford Ranger had been reported stolen at Roodepoort Police Station earlier.
