Honeydew house robbers arrested in Fourways gun battle

The suspects were pursued after committing two house robberies, one in Honeydew and another in Randburg.

The earlier on shootout (11 September) between police and suspects which left two suspects wounded and caused a traffic backlog in Fourways, it has been disclosed that the suspects were pursued after committing two house robberies, one in Honeydew and another in Randburg.

According to the South African Police Services Facebook page,the four suspects were nabbed after information was circulated and were spotted while changing their getaway vehicle’s registration plate.

“It is alleged that at about 10.45am this morning the police received information about a Kia Cerato that had committed an attempted house robbery in Randburg and another house robbery in Honeydew.”

“A lookout was circulated on the description of the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle was spotted and police gave chase. The suspects were later spotted along the N1 highway trying to change the vehicle registration.

A chase continued when the suspects reached the corners of William Nicol and Leslie Roads upon which a shootout ensued between the suspects and the police,” the post read.

It continued, “Two suspects aged between 28 and 38 were injured and are under police guard in hospital. The other two suspects were not injured and were arrested and detained”.

Amidst the shootout, a bystander (security officer) was also shot and injured. He was subsequently taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition, according to the report.

The report also indicated that a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect’s vehicle was hijacked in Alexandra on 7 September.

The following items were recovered:

A 9mm pistol, Kia Cerato, vehicle registration numbers, a plasma television, two laptops, two cameras and lenses, pick head, handgloves, jewellery, cash and a screw driver were recovered.

A case which includes possession of unlicensed firearm, attempted murder, possession of hijacked motor vehicle and possession of stolen property is under investigation at Douglasdale Police Station.
The suspects are expected to appear at Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
