Crime Stats: The best of the worst or the worst of the best?

Honeydew precinct hit hardest.

Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, announced the annual crime statistics earlier today.

The Record has compared the four police precincts (as per police station) and the picture hardly looks rosy. Residents of the Honeydew area especially seem the hardest hit among the four precincts – Roodepoort, Florida, Honeydew and Muldersdrift Police Stations.

We have broken down the statistics per cases made at the respective stations. Please note that the statistics do not include arrests and convictions. Also take into consideration that some police stations, such as Honeydew, preside over larger precincts. The statistics have been recorded from March 2017 until April 2018. Each list consists of the 30 worst precincts in the country, with the worst at number one.

None of the four police stations features on the list and the worst precinct in the country was Nyanga where 281 cases were opened in 2017, and 308 in 2018.
