After only two weeks, entries for this year’s Name the Chick competition are nearing the 200 mark, so enter below to try and get us over the line.
The competition was launched on Thursday, 16 August, in association with the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans as a means of naming the newest addition to the Black Eagle family. The egg hatched on 16 June, and now at 72 days old, the eaglet still needs a name.
So far, we have received 181 entries for the competition, which is already 50 per cent more than the number received last year.
Don’t know what kind of name to enter? Well, here a couple of things the BEPR is looking for in the name:
• Must be unisex, as we don’t know what the gender is yet
• Preferably an African name, to stick to the tradition that has been running for years
• Possibly Sisulu-related, as it has been a historic year in the memorisation of Walter and Albertina Sisulu
The competition will run until 14 September, and gives you the chance to win a R500 Spar voucher, a R200 voucher at the Eagle’s Fare Restaurant in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, as well as a two-night midweek stay for two people at the Fairway, one of the Guvon Hotel and Spa establishments.
Please note that if you work for or are affiliated to the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans, the Proteadal Conservation Association, the Wild Orchids of Southern Africa Association, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, or Caxton and the CTP Group Limted, you are not permitted to enter the competition. The competition will run until 14 September.
