Lace up for the Black Eagle Mountain Run

All funds raised through the race will go towards preserving the Black Eagles and their habitat.

Offering three different distances options, along with yoga on the day, the Black Eagle Mountain Run will loop through and around the stunning Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden on 22 September.

The Black Eagles in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens are facing the ever-present and ever-increasing risk of their habitat being encroached on and destroyed. In light of this, the powers that be at Adventure Junkie SA and the Proteadal Conservation Association have decided to launch the first-ever Black Eagle Mountain Run.

The first edition of the race will boast three different distances (2,5km, 8km, 15km), all beginning at different times of the morning. The race is open to any and everyone who is fit enough to run the specified distances, and most importantly, cares about preserving the Black Eagles’ habitat.

The 2,5km race will begin at 8am, and is described as an “easy, scenic walk on the paved route through the garden”, so it’s the ideal race for the not-so-fit.

The 8km will naturally be more challenging, and is described thus: “Starts off with a tough incline but eases off into a beautiful, enjoyable run past the black eagle breeding grounds”. The 8km race will begin at 7.50am.

Finally comes the 15km race, which should be a test for any experienced runner. There isn’t much of a description of the track/ route, but it is looking to become Jozi’s toughest trail run. The 15km race will begin at 7.40am.

There will also be yoga on the day, beginning at 9am, It will cost participants R100. The races will cost R115 (2,5km), R160 (8km), and R195 (15km), and there will be a R30 surcharge on late entrants who enter on the Saturday of the race.

Runners will receive their numbers on race day, but in the meantime they can enter the race with BoutTime here.
