Annual river clean-up takes place this weekend

Participants are advised to wear old clothes, headgear, boots or stout shoes and bring rubber or gardening gloves and water bottles.

Riverwel Residents Association is inviting residents of Weltevreden Park to participate in the annual river clean-up, which is taking place on Sunday, 2 September.

The activity will run from 9am to noon, and will see Ward 126 councillor, David Brand and the RA committee (who will be dressed in yellow gear) present on site.

Participants are advised to wear old clothes, headgear, boots or stout shoes and bring rubber or gardening gloves and water bottles.

Plastic bags will be supplied at certain collection points for the bakkie to pick them up and these will be deposited at the bridge for Pikitup collection on Monday.

Chairperson of the RA, Kevin Thomson, said CSS Security will be in attendance to ensure that there are no unwelcome vagrants lurking around.

“After the clean-up, all volunteers are invited to Matey’s Pub at Ridge Terrace for a boerewors roll and a cooling drink,” he said.
