Five Charter speakers progress to national finals
Charter College's smoothest talkers will be taking on the country's best in Witbank in October.
A number of Charter College students took part in the semifinal round of the Sala competition recently, with five of them emerging as the stars who’ll be taking part in the finals.
The South African Literacy Association (Sala) hosts annual public speaking competitions where children from Grade 1 to 12 have the chance to showcase their public speaking talents. This year, Charter College sent their own contingent to the competition, with the semifinals taking place at Sutherland High School on Saturday, 4 August.
The Charter learners spoke well and put together strong performances, which saw a handful of the Charter College speakers progress to the final round of the competition. Yaseen Motara (Grade 8) and Jean Erasmus (Grade 9) along with Grade 12 learners, Nonthando Mdziwanyika, Bhindiya Hira, and Suvar Maharaj, will be taking on the country’s best speakers at Kragbron High School in Witbank during the final round.
The finals will be taking place on 13 October, and will bring together the country’s best speakers from right across the schooling spectrum.
