WATCH: Eight-year-old’s dream to walk properly came true

'He needs to do daily exercises to strengthen the muscles'

Gone are the days of eight-year-old Fayzaan Hartley having to be carried on his father’s back, because he could not walk properly – a successful operation to his right foot has changed his life forever.

He was born with mild cerebral palsy (CP) which resulted in the right side of his body being paralysed. He could not walk properly, as he also had a club foot.

But, after he underwent an operation that would change his life on 21 May, Rashied Hartley, Fayzaan’s father, said, “The procedure lengthened the Achilles tendon, and he had to wear a cast for about seven weeks. The cast was removed on 13 July, and he can now walk flat on his right foot as well.” He added that they are doing daily physiotherapy exercises to help him strengthen the muscles and tendons in the foot.”Fayzaan is so happy that he can now walk normally and is looking forward to having more fun running and playing with his friends. And I am also very happy that we could get him the help he needed. I can finally feel like a proud dad,” Rashied said.

Rashied went on to express his gratitude towards everyone who has helped them to realise Fayzaan’s dream, and said, “My hope is that people out there who have a child with the same condition will look at our experience and never lose hope of getting the help they need.”
