The court appearance of the accused in the missing Liyaqat ‘Lee’ Mentoor case, left family and supporters disappointed and frustrated, as the case was postponed yet again.
The 29-year-old Onke Hartin Mashinini, who stands accused on charges of child neglect, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice as well as pre-meditated murder, briefly appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 18 July.
Mashinini’s defence requested a postponement, as they have still not received the transcripts from the previous bail hearing. The postponement was granted by the Magistrate. Mashinini will remain in custody until his next appearance on 25 July.

Estelle Delport, the family representative said, “Even though we were expecting another postponement, we were still very disappointed. The frustration is also mounting, as it has been four months since Lee went missing, and we are still no closer to an answer, and still have no closure.
How can someone just disappear into thin air? All we ask is that Onke gives us the answers we need – all we want is to have Lee back, regardless.”
