Update: Medicross The Berg Centre operational

'We are open to patients'

Medicross The Berg has confirmed that it is open to patients following the fire that broke out at the Spar situated in the same shopping centre.

According to Salome Liebenberg, the General Manager of Regional Operations at Medicross, the fire fortunately did not damage the facility and, contrary to some radio reports, Medicross The Berg reopened on Wednesday morning, 18 July.

“Once we received clearance from the Fire Chief that our facility was safe and in no way damaged by the fire, we were able to reopen at 10am, so that our doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals at the centre could continue to attend to their patients. Surgery in the day theatre resumed today, 19 July, after scheduled procedures for yesterday, 18 July, were cancelled,” she said.

She also apologised to patients for any inconvenience caused because of the late opening, as well as those who were affected by the cancellation of surgical procedures.

“All Medicross facilities adhere to the strictest protocols to ensure the safety of our patients, doctors and staff. We really are so sorry that a number of our neighbours at The Berg shopping centre had to go through this ordeal, but are also relieved that nobody was injured in the fire,” she concluded.
