From public speaking to well-known author

I received the highly coveted Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association in America

How many books could a Weltevreden Park resident write, then publish nationally, in just four years?

Douglas Kruger, 37, has managed it six times. A full-time professional speaker on the international business circuit, Douglas is a bestselling author with Penguin Random House SA. His first book, Own Your Industry, was released in 2014. In the coming weeks, he will launch his newest title, What Makes Them Great? 50 Ways to Become the Industry Leader. A study in how entrepreneurs and aspiring experts can become top icons in their field, it will appear in bookstores nationally as of early August.

Kruger describes his book as ‘a practical look at how to become the Branson of business, the Clarkson of cars, the Schwarzenegger of bodybuilding.’ He deconstructs the strategies and insights of top performers across a range of industries in order to find out what they all have in common, and then he shares this information in the form of a ‘how-to’ guide for entrepreneurs.

Douglas is also well known in the speaking industry. He is noted for having won the Toastmasters Southern African Championships for Public Speaking a record five times. In 2016, in honour of excellence in his craft, the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa inducted him into its Speakers’ Hall of Fame. This year, he received the highly coveted Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation from the National Speakers Association in America, which is their highest earned award.

Douglas, a husband and new father, is particularly proud of the opening pages of the new book, which bear a dedication to his one-year-old son, Michael, along with his son’s ink hand-print. The dedication reads:

“This is a book about legacy. Mikey, I have no greater legacy than you, and I will enjoy no greater privilege than helping you to grow and design a life of your own. You’re the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. I love your socks off, little man!”

The Gordon Institute of Business Science will be hosting a public launch for the book in August (details on their website), and Douglas will make an informal author’s appearance at Exclusive Books Clearwater as well.

Douglas also reads all of his own books onto audiotape. The downloadable audio-books are available from Audible.com.

Meanwhile, he has also serialised the lessons from the new book in a video series called From Amateur to Expert. The videos are available, free, on his website: https://www.douglaskruger.co.za.
