Recovered burnt-out Mercedes Benz under investigation

Following a disturbing shooting involving the driver of a BMW at the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and President Fouché Road in Olivedale on 17 July, a local security company has recovered a burnt-out Mercedes Benz and a weapon believed to be have been used in the fatal incident.

“A member of the public stopped one of our Armed Response Officers and told him about a vehicle on fire in the veld close to Christiaan de Wet Road in Allen’s Nek.

Our officer, Operations Team and K-9 units went to the location given by this person to investigate. Upon arrival they found the burnt-out shell of a Mercedes Benz with a charred assault rifle lying on the back seat,” Gary explained.

He added that members of the police arrived shortly afterwards, followed by detectives, to investigate further.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, said they are aware of the burnt-out vehicle but haven’t had any confirmation as the matter is still under investigation.

The police have launched a manhunt for two suspects following the shooting.

It is alleged that a 46-year-old person was driving a silver BMW with two other occupants, when two suspects driving a white Mercedes Benz started shooting at the them. The driver was fatally wounded, and the passengers were injured and taken to hospital.

The motive for the killing is unknown. Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and murder.
