Dancing was Madiba’s thing

Mandela once said, “It's music and dancing that make me at peace with the world”.

uTata Nelson Mandela may be gone but definitely not forgotten. These are the sentiments of many South Africans and the world at the large.

When one contemplates Madiba’s life as a struggle stalwart and hero of the nation, one cannot help but remember his famous dance. It not only united the people but got the masses off their feet – whether it was during conferences, gala events or political rallies.

The Madiba Jive added to the late former president’s charm as he was never ashamed to stand up and pull off the dance, swaying rhythmically from side to side.

Mandela once said, “It’s music and dancing that make me at peace with the world”. Famous as the dance was, it also gave birth to music concerts and campaigns such as the Madiba Jive Music Festival and Dance for Madiba, a programme that encourages people from around the world to perform the Madiba Jive.
