Several acts lit up the Zandspruit taxi rank on Saturday, 30 June, when they performed at the third annual Youth Month celebration.The day, aimed at celebrating the youth of Zandspruit, is held annually on the last Saturday of June at the Zandspruit taxi rank.
“We choose to hold it here because it is a convenient place that is familiar to everyone in Zandspruit,” said Golden Drifters Football Academy director and president, Proud Shoko, who also lends his hand at helping out with events for the youth in Zandspruit. Every year, the day gives local talent the opportunity to put themselves out there and make themselves known to the people of Zandspruit.
“It gives us a platform to showcase our talents, and to show the people of Zandspruit that there really are special talents brewing here,” said the founder of Honeydew HipHop, Ishmael Masuku.
All of the acts which performed on the day are from Zandspruit, and the lineup included, but wasn’t limited to, acts such as Dark Empire, Ishmiza SA, KayGee XI, DeE aAr, DJ Ozzie, and Umvoyu.
The day also saw a number of motivational speakers addressing the crowd, among them Proud himself, who spoke about how great the benefits of being active and playing sport can be.
