Municipal statements delayed because of Post Office

'This interruption has an impact on our residents' ability to budget and pay their monthly rates and service charges.'

The South African Post Office is currently facing some challenges that will prevent residents from getting their municipal account statements on time.

This is according to a media release from the City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance, councillor Funzela Ngobeni. “I would like to alert all ratepayers of the delayed municipal account statement deliveries,” he said.

“We are aware that this interruption in statement delivery has an impact on our residents’ ability to budget and pay their monthly rates and service charges.

This has brought to light the fact that our residents need more than one medium of receiving their municipal account statements. As we start our new financial year, we’ll look at promoting our current alternative channels, and explore new ways of getting our customers their bills on time,” Ngobeni added.

Affected residents may access their balances via the automated balance inquiry system available through the City’s call centre on 0860 56 28 74. Alternatively, residents may register on the City’s e-Services channel at https://www.joburg.org.za to download their most recent statements.
