Abusive guards dealt with by company

Vicone Protection Services Senior Manager, Ntokozo Mabaso, said the company was embarrassed by the way their officers behaved.

The contracted security company at Palm Court Shopping Centre in Weltevreden Park has apologised for the behaviour of its employees accused of assaulting and harassing the homeless men at the centre.

Vicone Protection Services Senior Manager, Ntokozo Mabaso, said they were embarrassed by the way their officers behaved. “On behalf of Vicone Protection Services, I extend my sincere apologies for the behaviour of our employees at Palm Court. We expect all our employees to remain professional no matter under what circumstances.

Thank you for informing us of this inexcusable incident. We are embarrassed that protection officers from our company would have caused such a scene,” he said.

One of Weltevreden Park’s homeless victims, Kelvin Prumai, told Northsider that entering the shopping centre was not an easy task as they would be assaulted by the security guards and accused of all sorts of crimes. “I’ve been hustling at Palm Court but the centre security targets and beats us up, which is not fair,” said Kelvin as he rolled up his sleeves, revealing some of the injuries sustained during an alleged assault incident. He said he visits the centre to look for work and to buy food.

He named Erick as one of the security guards behind the abuse of homeless men entering the centre.

Mabaso said the linked employees have been dealt with. “Our employees have been disciplined and will lose their jobs if this behaviour ever happens again,” he concluded.
