Baby Moses asks your help this Mandela Day

Help them to celebrate this special day

Baby Moses Sanctuary is appealing to the community to help support them this Mandela Day.

“This year we will be celebrating the 100th birth year of Nelson Mandea, who had a special place in his heart for children. Every year we use this day to ask our donors to support us with non-perishable food, cleaning products, clothing and finances. This helps us tremendously to remain sustainable,” said Lanie de Klerk, founder of Baby Moses.

She added that, because of this centenary, the South African Mint will also be issuing various special-edition R5 coins and said, “R5 coins are also very important to Baby Moses, as we give our children their weekly tuck shop money in multiples of these coins. We hand out 272 of the R5 coins (R1 360) to our children in the Gauteng homes every month, so if you have any spare coins, it will help us a lot to continue doing so. There are times when the banks cannot help, and sometimes we do not have sufficient funds.”

Lanie said that any winter clothing, pyjamas and slippers for children between the ages of five and 15 will also be appreciated.

Their needs list include the following items:

• Food, tinned food, lunch spreads, margarine, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, two-minute noodles, pasta, rice, sugar, Oros, salt and other spices, jelly, custard, full-cream milk powder, soya mince and soups

• Cleaning products, toiletries, plasters, Dettol and toilet paper

• Any stationery, including for the Day Care Centre

• Sustainable and non-perishable food as well as R5 coins for the school tuck shop

• Day Care Centre – 9 x 2,7m poles (125mm), 2 x 3,6m poles, 5 x 2m poles, and 100m brand ring, gutters, screws and nails. The area will also be needing a cement floor in time.

“With the school holidays around the corner, we plan to take the children to the movies, events and other outings, but we need some support, including financial help for 25 children. We do not have anything specific in mind, but things like treats, small gifts, clothing, games, i-Jump, pizza and some soft drinks will be greatly appreciated,” said Lanie.

Financial donations are always welcome. “Debit orders help a lot towards our sustainability, but because of the unfavourable economic climate we have had a considerable number of cancellations and reductions in the past two years. The system is very flexible, and cancelling is easy. People who are interested can send an email to the office and we will forward a short instruction form that needs to be completed and sent back,” Lanie explained.
