The woman who was knocked over by a taxi on Main Reef Road in Newlands has died.
The 32-year-old Doriana van der Westhuizen sustained serious head injuries and died soon after she was brought to Helen Joseph Hospital.
The taxi driver escaped injury.
According to her younger sister, Zandi Meyer, Doriana was like a mother to her and their brother Wikus van der Westhuizen. “She always put others’ need before her own.”

Doriana’s mother, Thea de Lange said she is grateful that her daughter was a Christian. “She knew God. Things were difficult while she was growing up, but lately we had a good relationship.”
Thea said Doriana couldn’t drive or owned a car, and the last thing they expected was for Doriana to die in a road accident. “We will miss her,” she said.
A case was opened at the Sophiatown Police Station.
Doriana is survived by Zandi, Wikus, her mother Thea, her three daughters and fiancé Timmy Hughes.
Her funeral arrangements have not been finalised yet.
