The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection. The Avanza was sent careening into an electricity pole while the Hyundai veered off out of control and came to a halt at the entrance to the Total garage on the corner.
It is believed the Avanza was transporting schoolchildren to Laerskool Gustav Preller, but the school was unable to confirm this at the time of writing, as they had not received any information about the accident.
According to ER24 spokesperson, Annine Siddall, the 10 schoolchildren who were being transported in the Avanza are believed to be between the ages of 10 and 13.
“There were 10 children involved in the accident, and they all sustained minor injuries,” Siddall was able to confirm.
Despite only sustaining minor injuries, all the children were rushed to various hospitals by both ER24 and City of Joburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) ambulances, where they were subsequently treated.
