Ontdekkers sees some late afternoon beef

A load of bull? No, just your regular full-grown bull roaming down Ontdekkers Road.

Talk about a bull in a china shop! Ontdekkers Road in Mindalore was the scene of complete havoc yesterday afternoon, 12 June when a full-grown bull randomly strolled over the tarmac and graciously grazed on the grass on the pavement next to Funchal Fast Foods.

Emergency services were called to the scene and chased the bull further from the road. Some even dubbed him Boetie-die-Bul once he was relatively safe and waiting for the SPCA to arrive.

Everyone, even some community members, stopped to help keep Boetie off the road.

The SPCA was called to the scene at about 3pm and found the bull in an open field.

“We don’t know where he came from, nor who his owner is,” said Mandy Cattanach, manager of the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA.

“We suspect he might belong to someone who traditionally owns cattle.”

A vet was called to the scene and Boetie was tranquillised. He was loaded onto a bakkie and transported to a nearby farm.

“It’s worth mentioning that there was a great team effort between everyone on scene to keep the animal and the passing motorists safe.”

Boetie-die-Bul was saved by a great group effort.

Dowry’s High Risk Unit, the police’s K9 Unit and even some community members helped keep the animal off the road and out of harm’s way.

It was safe to say that traffic was delayed due to ‘natural causes’. Some might even say the incident was a load of bull, but at least no one, not even Boetie, was injured.

It was also welcomed by some as a chance to get the long grass cut for once.
