Your small change can make a big change for Claw

Charity Begins with Me announces official Mandela Day project

Can you find 67 coins to donate? Are you able to donate six or seven cans (or bags) of dog and cat food?

“Everyone has been asking me what we will be doing for Mandela Day, and, after a bit of thinking, we have decided that our support will be going to the Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) in Durban Deep.

They do such amazing work and desperately need our help to keep their doors open,” said Stephan Ferreira, the founder of Charity Begins with Me.

He explained that, because they would not be able to volunteer at Claw on the day, they decided to do something different. “We will be doing a massive coin collection as well as collecting cans – or bags – of dog and cat food to support their projects.”

Stephan urged the community to donate all their unwanted coins (even the ugly five cent coins) and said, “Empty that jar you keep in your closet, get the kids to go on a treasure hunt around the house, and empty those desk drawers and pockets. You will be surprised at how much money is just lying around.”

Donations of dog and cat food will also be welcome. “If you buy only one can (or bag) of food every week, you will have six or seven by 18 July,” he said.

He said that they will be doing a handover of all donated money and food on Mandela Day (18 July).

“If you would like to be part of this challenge, send me a WhatsApp or SMS on 072 593 3866 or send an email to charitybeginswithme.blogspot@gmail.com. You will be surprised at how much money can be collected, and what a big difference it can make. We are all going through tough times, and need a little help from our friends. So, from now until 18 July, I will be carrying around a mini piggy bank. Next time you see me, please give me your coins,” he concluded.
