#JusticeForLee: ‘Happy birthday, little angel’

Today, 12 June, is a bittersweet day for the family and friends of the missing little boy, Liyaqat 'Lee' Mentoor, as they are celebrating his birthday without him.

Family representative, Estelle Delport said, “Today marks 88 days since Lee’s disappearance, and it is also his fourth birthday. Our little angel is still missing.”

She added that the feelings they are experiencing are indescribable, and said, “He is not home to celebrate his birthday with his mom, Kaylah, and we cannot begin to describe the feeling of emptiness we are experiencing. The sadness of not hearing Lee’s excitement while blowing out those candles and opening a present celebrating him on his birthday is beyond description.”

Delport also had a special message for Kaylah Mentoor, Lee’s mother. “Kaylah, my heart bleeds each and every day for you, and on a day like today, as a mother, I can only imagine with my broken heart, the pain you are going through. Kaylah, you are my daughter, not just my niece, you are not alone.”

“Each South African feels and shares your pain. No matter what the circumstances, all we want is to hear Lee’s laughter and to see his joy and that bright, beautiful smile and adorable eyes. Be strong, Kaylah, and know that your family loves you, South Africa loves you and we are here by your side. As a family we will remain strong. Everyone is feeling your pain, and sees your journey as their own.

“We pray that Lee will be reunited with you, and that you will be able to hold him and keep him safe once again,” she said.

Delport concluded with a birthday wish for Lee, saying, “Happy birthday, our little angel, Liyaqat ‘Lee’ Akeem Mentoor.”
