Sports day with a difference at Treehouse

The learners had the opportunity to show off their academic skills as well

Not even the cold weather could dampen the learners’spirit as they enjoyed their first ever Academalympics.

Sharn Anne Mitchell from the Treehouse Kindergarten in Florida, said that it was the first event of its kind, and that they would be repeating it annually. “We decided to host a sports day, but with a difference, as we did not only have sporting events. The learners also had the opportunity to show their parents what they had learned at school. The activities were aimed at getting the learners and their parents involved in some fun games,” she said.

Sharleen Williams dashed to tidy up the balloons for the next event.

The day was filled with fun and games, and everyone enjoyed events like balloon herding, a sight word challenge and the dinosaur feet race. The adults joined the little ones in the ball toss event, where they had to get the balls into the moving baskets that were tied to the teachers’ backs.

Zylen Smith scans the playground with his mom to find the teacher with a basket on her back.

“The aim of the day was to get active and involve families in the learners’school life. We also used it as a fundraising event, to raise money for us to improve the playground,” Sharn Anne said.

The winners of the different bingo challenges received some Pick n Pay vouchers, and Woolworths also sponsored some fresh fruit, ensuring everyone was able to enjoy a healthy breakfast.
