Help Salvation Army to help others

Warm clothes are also welcome and can be taken to the local Salvation Army church.

The Salvation Army is appealing to the public to assist in helping homeless people.

Winter has arrived and the temperature has dropped, leaving the homeless people out in the cold.

Major Carin Holmes, PR Secretary of the organisation, said that they are expecting an influx of homeless people looking for help in the next few days.

“Although we provide sandwiches and hand out blankets throughout the year, there is a particular need for this when the cold fronts start to hit. The biting chill of a winter’s night is a tough time to be living on the streets, and we need all the help we can get to give assistance to homeless people,” she said.

“Giving help can be as simple and easy as sending an SMS message to our Helpline, 42290, with the word “Winterhelp” in the SMS. The cost of the SMS is only R30, the vast majority of which we receive and put towards assisting the needy,” she added.

Warm clothes are also welcome and can be taken to the local Salvation Army church (Burger Street, Krugersdorp) for distribution.

The Salvation Army is an international evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible, its ministry is motivated by love for God, and its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination.

Members of the public can make direct contributions into the Salvation Army’s bank account. Details are:
