ANCYL Zone 5 addresses radical economic transformation at business breakfast

Speakers at the ANCYL Zone 5 Radical Socio-economic Business Breakfast tackled issues surrounding radical economic transformation in Gauteng and the country as a whole.

Among those speaking were the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Zone 5 deputy chairperson, Siya Masiza, as well as chairperson, Ashley Mama.

In his speech, Mama paid close attention to the numerous radical economic transformation initiatives that have been taken by the ANCYL Zone 5 in the last few years.

“We have opened up countless opportunities for small businesses in the area, and have seen 20 small businesses opened in the last couple of years,” Mama said.

Another speaker who threw his hat into the ring was former SA Medical Association chairperson for Junior Doctors, Dr Bandile Hadebe.

Hadebe, who now plies his trade with the ANC’s Progressive Youth Business Forum, addressed the issue of the lack of a universal definition of radical economic transformation.

According to Hadebe, “Radical economic transformation is a systemic, rapid and drastic overhaul of the current and historic transmission and acquisition of wealth which has fundamentally been conducted along racial lines.”

Mandla Mkhize, executive director of Blue Print, also pledged to give 20 youth-owned companies an opportunity to be part of what could turn out to be a R4 billion project, while Gabriel Kobue, director of Ubusi Consulting (Pty) Ltd and Phakamisani Consulting and Projects, committed to using 20 youth-owned companies as subcontractors in his various entities.
