‘After all, empowered women empower women’

Dr Nombini Habangana has been announced as a Mrs South Africa Top 100 2018 semi-finalist.

After a record number of entries were received for the competition, Dr Nombini Habangana, who hails from Little Falls, has found herself in the Top 100 of this year’s Mrs South Africa pageant.

Her journey as a Top 100 semi-finalist began on 2 March when she was invited, along with the other participants from all over South Africa, to the first-ever National Casting and Empowerment Workshop held at Emperors Palace, to help the ladies prepare for the journey ahead.

Nombini feels rather strongly about the competition, believing it has become a women’s empowerment programme.

“It has established itself as a women’s empowerment programme that prides itself on producing the very best in real, relatable, modern South African women,” she said.

Nombini believes there’s more to the competition than just setting up a strong female image within the country – it extends that image to the world. It has also taught her to never give up on what you believe in, and that you are never too old to pursue what you love.

“Throughout the journey towards Mrs South Africa, I have seen women find themselves again and learn that they are never too old to follow their dreams and become voices of change.

“This platform gives us the opportunity to remind real women that they are not victims of their circumstances – they are worthy of love, respect and true happiness.”

Nombini believes in not becoming a victim of your circumstances. You should take what you have and seize the day with what you can, to the best of your ability.

“It is up to each and every one of us to stand up and take control of our lives.”

The 25 lucky women who will be selected to continue the journey as finalists in the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa 2018 competition will be announced at the annual charity ball on 29 June at the Centre Court, Emperors Palace.

All proceeds of this event will go to the pageant’s official charity – Women4Women South Africa.

Nombini is especially grateful to her silver sponsors, Matsidiso Shoes and Fitfanatic, who have made her journey all the more possible.

“After all, empowered women empower women, men and communities as a whole,” she concluded.
